February Meeting

The months seem to be coming around faster and faster as we get older ! such a pity the trees do not grow that fast. February was the re-potting workshop and help session for both experienced bonsai keepers and members that had never re-potted a tree before, there was a vast amount of experience available for a task that some members can find quite daunting for the first time and a good night was had by all as can be seen from the pics. there was also a good selection of pots available from T B Bonsai pots for members to buy and use on the night as some did.

we also had members that had just retuned from Neolanders 2017 with all the news of who had won what and what a fabulous show it was this year, this was mainly Alex Rudd who is our chairman and damn fine chap, he never seems to stand still always wanting to help other members.

we have also started the raffles again and on offer this month was a catoniaster donated by Zaks Bonsai nursery in Kent and Also, being the type of guy he is Alex purchased two of T B Bonsai pots and Donated one to the Raffle ( this will go in next months ) second prize was chocolates and finally a runner up cash prize.

don’t forget that new members are very welcome, come along and have a look at what we are up to you might like it !.

Pots Pots Pots

Well we started the year off with a lesson in Pots from our resident expert Alex and assisted by the Fountain of knowledge Dean, who ever thought there was so much to learn about the bonsai pot, its history the markings right down to specific glazes for specific pots. the two hour lecture was both informative and and imaganative, and Alex brought just a few of his thousands of pots (i kid you not) to show the group and to hand around for first hand explanations.

Alex is more than happy to do this talk for others just contact him vie the Society and have a chat with him.

Next month the year really starts as we get stuck in to the repotting process, so all members do not forget to bring with you your trees and pots but  also soil, wire, tools and anything else that you may need for the hands on demo. All newcomers also welcome to come and see what its all about.

see you all next month

Yearly A.G.M

Ok, so next month is the AGM for the club when we sort out next years program and club fees and all the administration involved in running the club for another year. thats the boring stuff but what you may not be aware of is that we have an auction on the same night when the boring stuff is over, and this year we have a considerable amount of tree,s to auction, mainly from an ill member of the club who has decided to hand up his snips and pass his work on to somebody worthy, we would like to collect as much money as possible for this person so i ask that you come along and spend your hard earned cash on a fab tree and all for a good cause, if i can get some picts of the items that will be available on the night i will publish them. just remember we meet on the first Monday of the month at around 7.30pm.

The Will Adams Festival 2016

The Club Attended its regular yearly attendance  at the Will Adams Festival in Gillingham Kent this month, it was a larger display than the club is usually comfortable with and unfortunately manpower was not fantastic for that weekend. but the team who attended did an outstanding job on the day as you can see from the pics, and a big thank you goes out to all those that made the day a success from all us lightweights that could not attend on the day .

Peter Warren Weekend

i am reliably informed that the weekend was a great success and all that attended had a fab time, very informative and practical, the rain stayed off for the two days and much work was completed as you can see from the photos. I’m sure that with the succes of the weekend more will be planned for next year and again Bonsai people from all over the uk will gather in Kent to get there tree,s sorted.
