Courtesy of Alain K via the European Bonsai Forum here are some pictures of the show that took place in Saulieu France on the 18th &19th October. There were some fantastic trees on display.
It is with very great sadness and a tremendous sense of loss that we have to announce the very sudden death of Ray Ward, Vice Chairman of FOBBS. He died very suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday morning after being a fit and healthy Judge at Capel manor Show on Sunday. He will be very greatly
missed by all the FoBBS committee and I am equally sure by Sussex Bonsai Group of whom he was a very long time member and the newer Crawley Bonsai Society of whom he was a founder member.
The work done for Bonsai by Ray enormous and the enthusiasm with which he threw himself into all he did will be remembered by all who knew him or with whom he came in contact. A man recently recognised on the FOBBS Roll of Honour; he will be remembered for his work and enthusiasm.
Our thoughts and wishes go out to his wife Peta and to his family and friends at this very sad time.

After a lengthy and very interesting AGM last week we finally thrashed out a new programme for next year (this will be published soon) and a few other burning issues.
As most of you have probably gathered by now the MBS have finally come into the 21st century and accepted that a FaceBook page was perhaps the order of the day and another good way of
showing off recruiting new members and basically getting what we do out there on the Wibbly Wobbly Web. The Website / Blog will still be active for those of you who abhore the Zuckerburg monster. All committee members who have Facebook access have had invites to write to the page and another certain Shiten comrade.
“So (putting on a POSH queenly accent) it is without further ado that I proudly announce Maidstone Bonsai Society FaceBook page is now officially open, may all who sail in her have a jolly good journey”
This is a test post on MBS WordPress to see if it copies to the Facebook page, don’t get too excited, better stuff to follow soon, PROMISE x
The annual auction is taking place at the club meeting on Monday night. A few of you have sent me lists of what you want to sell. I want to record as many of the lots as I can before Monday so please send me details of the items you wish to sell including any reserve prices. One mans meat is another mans poison, so scour round your unwanted trees and bonsai bits make a few pounds and help support the club.
Last weekend saw “Les’ Big Bonsai Bash Weekend “aka “Shiten Summer Skool” at Les’ house with guest artist Simon Temblett. Reports flowed in on what a fantastic weekend was had by all and some serious work was done on trees. To top it off food was in abundance and in particular a certain Spanlish Chef added some Iberian expertise with his mouth watering Paella.
I shall let the pictures do the rest of the talking
No it’s true he does wire
Jose’s San Jose (There is a tongue twister in there I am sure) Before
Simons Yew Before
Next years get together is already in motion and the guest artist will be Will Baddeley, I will make sure I can make it next year, not for the Bonsai, as I don’t have any, just for the Paella!
